Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first trophy for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.
The athlete, a former world number one, has had a torrid season, winning just one win at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.
Presently training with Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought competitive win over challenger Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's first trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface after that period of that year.
Success also means the Russian has won 21 championships at twenty-one different events.
"For the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a title is really nice," commented world number 14 the champion.
"This title is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his last six finals, comprising in that event earlier this year.
His counter-punching play style and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had caused commentators to doubt if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.
However the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play positively, supported by an enhanced serving game.
He fought back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the last five exchanges to go ahead.
Both players traded service breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his initial tour victory, gained dominance to force a decider.
The opponent defended four early chances in a close third set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to secure the win.
Fittingly, he earned the win with a point at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
